2000 Chevrolet Malibu
For the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu, there were little recalls done, the National Highway
and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted two recalls. One was for the
turn signal lights and one was for the filler cap for the tank assembly in the
gasoline storage for the engine. In a certain number of Malibu's, approximately
the potential number of Malibu's affected reached 670740, have hazard warning
switches that may experience solder joint cracking caused by rapid temperature
transitions and the soldering process.

If solder joint cracking occurs and results in an open circuit the turn signal/hazard
lamps become inoperative. Without these, a driver may not show his intent for
turning and may result in an accident. Affecting about 43218 Malibu's, some of
them failed to comply with requirements of FMVSS No. 301, "Fuel System Integrity",
the fuel fitting is not properly secured to the fuel tank. In that condition,
fuel leakage may exceed the permissible amount in an FMVSS test. Fuel leaks may
occur, particularly after refueling or when the tank is more than half full. If
the leak gets contact with an ignition or a fire source, a fire may explode. The
remedy called for was a recall for a check up and replacement. A toll free hotline
was given for these problems so that Malibu owners had the chance to know more
about these problems so that it could be remedied.
